Even at school, young girls are implemented an extra set of rules. We are told that we have to follow a certain dress code so we don’t distract male teachers or the education of male students. Instead of teaching girls to not express themselves through their clothing, why don’t you teach men to be more respectful towards girls? If looking at a bra strap or exposed shoulders makes you feel aroused in any way, the problem is YOU. Not me. This kind of “we’ll penalize girls for your faults” treatment is what leads men to think that they are superior to women, as if we have to follow every single word and every single order they make. As a result, this behaviour becomes apparent in many sexual assault cases. And because women are taught to be quiet, they end up being afraid to speak up. According to SexAssault.ca, for every 100 cases of sexual assault, only 6 are reported to the police.
