I strongly agree that parents should set rules for teen dating. I have honestly always had this idea mostly because kids do it anyways, now a day it’s not strange to see a middle school child dating. “They’re going to pursue relationships and they’ll create children who don’t know how to critically think for themselves” said Clark which is from the article Teen Dating Guidelines by Jessica Childs and I got to say it was very well put. Kids will date, and rules should be set. Maybe letting dating in middle school wouldn’t be the best idea but if you allow it you can start off with not letting them be alone mostly because they will feel ready and take it to another level which may be kissing and there to young and should respect themselves. …show more content…
They maybe older but they're still kids and always have to obey their parents. Someone as a parent probably won’t feel comfortable taking their kid to school and knowing their child is dating a guy/girl that’s 4 years older than their child, who would. I mean you don’t know the intentions of the person with your child. Always meeting the boyfriend or girlfriend can be a good rule to set to because you want to see who your child is going out with. Maybe dating someone that's a year older or younger is fine and a bit more comforting for a parent too. You always have to be in your child's life and know the people they socialize with in general. Now let's say they follow their rules and there about 16 and 17 and they decide to go out well other rules need to be set. Mostly as a parent you want to be well informed. You’ll need to be notified about where they're going, how long they will be out and what will they be doing just like Seryl said in the article. As a parent you want to know where they're going so you will better on letting them out. Secondly you want to know how long they will be out so they don’t take advantage of you letting them go out together. Then you want know what will they be doing, you always want to know what they are doing it’s for their own safety. Since you want your child to be safe and not do something they might regret later in life. I know people that made the mistake of going out and lying about it and have, had horrible consequences and some are still paying for their errors. Kids know it’s for their wellbeing and hopefully listen. Also if your kid is a freshman in high school and is, let’s say dating a senior and they both agree they are ready for something else it’s also illegal to do anything without the parents’ consent that can ruin that senior’s opportunities for something better in life. It can even mean jail
