Audience members feel that even though they lose their jobs, they did not lose everything like Ricky Bobby. Audience members can laugh at their own problem because it is not as bad as what Ricky went through.
Comedy movies have a main character that hates his normal life and after a long journey achieves a happy life he always wanted. Audiences need this in comedies to make them feel that they can improve their life, if they are going through a difficult time, and achieve the same happiness as the character. This is seen in the movie The Do Over when Charlie finds that he has come to hate his life ,because of the neglection from his kids and wife, he decides he wants to start over leaving his family and friends behind. Audience relate to this because they find their life boring at times or wanting something such as a new wife or girlfriend. Charlie and Max then move to Puerto Rico under fake names and use their names to gain a fortune. They find trouble with a gang and come close to death. This journey that Charlie and Max go through relate to the audience because the audience when in a tough situation has many challenges that they face, such as not enough money for food or shelter but because Charlie and Max make it through
