A multiple relationship is when a psychologist is in a nonsexual relationship with a someone while the person is also their client, is a family member or someone with a close relation with the client, or makes a promise to be in a relationship with any of the previously mentioned in the future. While these relationships are not automatically unethical, they should not be attempted if there is a reasonable chance that the relationship could be harmful to the client.
