The First Amendment is freedom of speech and it is often violated due to limitations and censorship made not only by the government, but also by American citizens. It was made to protect society from the power of the government and to give people the freedom of opinion. “The First Amendment allows citizens to express and to be exposed to a wide range of opinions and views.”(First Amendment) It gives people the right to read, hear, to see and to have a different point of view. People were convinced that if children read about a world where socialism is about, then they would grow up believing that everyone should be equal and that you would not have to work hard to earn money. “Hayek wrote of socialism as a ‘creeping’ menace that would not result in equality for all but rather economic ruin and the disintegration of personal ambition.”(Opposing Viewpoints) Socialist pictured a world where everyone was equal to each other, and nobody had less wealth than anybody else. The government does not want socialism because if everyone was as equally wealthy to each other, the economy would crumble due to citizens earning money too quickly; it would cause our nation to destroy itself from within and the government would not be able to make decisions unless the citizens had a say in them too. Later, some protest in Europe made some Americans believe that socialism was not supportable. Americans came to believe that socialism limited freedom, responsibility, hard work and what the government was and was not allowed to do. When it comes to socialism, the government wants to spread wealth equally to their people. “According to critics, socialism destroys the human drive for achievement by removing a major motivator: wealth.”(Opposing Viewpoints) Some people believe that socialism causes downfalls in the economy, while socialist believe that socialism would make people believe more in equality to themselves and
