Reflective Paper- Henrietta Lacks
Conditions of Consent Many can agree that after reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, that Henrietta had an extremely kind and caring heart. Throughout her short life, Henrietta enjoyed to help others she would help others on a daily basis especially to get them on their feet. “She’d packed their lunches until they found their feet, then sent extra food to work with Day so they didn’t go hungry between paychecks” (Skloot 84). Henrietta obviously didn’t like to see people struggling especially to eat, so there’s no reason she wouldn’t want to help relieve people’s medical issues. She would go out of her way to help others on a daily basis with food and a place to put their heads at night, so I don’t see any reason to why she wouldn’t want to help others medically as well. Sonny stated “She liked takin care of people, so it make sense what she did with them cells” (Skloot 159). With the community having such negative thoughts about the Hopkins University and Medical School, Henrietta would have probably kept that a secret like she kept her cancer a secret for a period of time because she didn’t want others to worry about her. “She simply went on with her day as if nothing had happened, which was just like her- no sense upsetting anyone over something she could deal with herself” (Skloot 31).
