Being Incarcerated for any period of time has a huge effect on a person’s life. Once someone is incarcerated they lose basic civil rights like the right to vote, hold public office, own a firearm and in some cases, may even lose the right to live in certain areas. After release from prison people find it nearly impossible to find an apartment or a job that will hire them because most homeowners and managers do not trust former prisoners living in their apartment buildings or being employed in their companies. The incarceration experience is supposed to make prisoners never want to go back to prison but then why are the recidivism rates so high?
