A series of acts were passed by the British Parliament in 1774. The acts were known together as the Intolerable Acts (because they were deemed “intolerable”), or the Coercive Acts.
The Intolerable Acts were passed as a result of the Boston Tea Party. Lord North was stunned at the colonist’s audacity, while King George agreed, stating, “We must master them totally, or leave them to themselves.” This showed that the people in charge of the British colonies were not about to let the colonists revolt.
