“The Cranes” The last sentence in “The Cranes” can be interpreted in many ways. The shot truly scared the forever mated birds. The shot also has a deeper but true meaning to the forever in love humans. The shot represents a whole new life to come for both of the everlasting couples. I believe the quote “Necks pointed like arrows toward the sun” has a deeper meaning than just the birds. As if the birds represented the humans going on to the next life. The birds were going to be “extinct soon” just like the husband and wife. The commotion at which the birds stepped away was the first gun shot, and the killing of true love, his wife. The sound of the second gunshot killed the forever love on both sides, as he shoots himself.
