Gradually the border started to become more and more protected,which is understandable. The country was to remain untouched and protected from any corruption by the neighboring countries.Plus, incidents have shown that many immigrants have tried to smuggle themselves into the U.S. along with illegal objects that could harm America. Especially with the new territory the U.S. was attaining, the country needed to protect it’s states. With the border the country was declaring what land was theirs and separated it from it’s previous owners. The land attained was now of the America, and coming back to that land was going to be difficult. And so the border grew up and became stronger. The border was no longer what it was before,it was no longer a measly fence. During the first world war,while many were off fighting, there was an imperative need of Mexican labor in exchange for wage and temporary citizenship in the United States.Seeing as employment was very scarce in Mexico,due to the aftermath of the Mexican Revolution, this compromise seemed very appetizing. Later on most in hopes of the life as an American citizen and wage, came to the U.S. through the same process, but it was later known the Bracero Program. With the new naming also came along some benefits towards the immigrant workers.
