Founded in 1828 by Thomas Jefferson and formerly known as The Democratic-Republican Party, the Democratic party is regarded as one of the oldest political parties not only in the country but also in the entire world. The party religiously on the views of social conservatism and economic liberation. It primarily focused more on a strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution and also upheld that the national government that was characterized as strong and as such, a threat to the freedom of people and sovereignty of the state. Since it was formed, the party has seen 15 presidents serving as presidents in 16 different administrations with the first being President Andrew Jackson and the most recent being President Barack Obama.
On the other hand, The Republican party was founded in 1854 on strong antislavery ideologies. The party brought together people and institutions that desired to see the abolishment of slavery in the country. Although Democratic Party existed way before The Republican Party was formed, the latter revolutionized the country and led to equality in all citizens of America regardless of their races. In regards to the declaration of independence, the party was formed on the recognition that all human beings were equal and as such, they deserved equal rights as their white counterparts.
