“God gives us the ingredients for our daily bread but he expects us to do the baking”-Chip Ingram. One might believe that god decides a person's destiny but really god shows the path of life but the choices are made by an individual. In the short story “The Singing Silence” by Eva-Lis Wuorio has many examples that show this, One is that Vicente was a poor old man but he still choices to work hard. The second example would be that he American man didn’t ask Vicente for money but Vicente still chooses to help the man out. Lastly, despite Vicente's age and the time he had been trying to look for the amphora, he never gave up and stopped looking. An individual is capable of determining their own destiny because at the end only the individual is responsible for their choices and one cannot blame anyone else for their wrong decisions and behavior.

Vicente was a poor old man with not much to be happy about but he was still satisfied with what he had. If he sticks to his old job as a porter than he would have made money to wear gold

In the short story “The Singing Silence” by Eva-Lis Wuorio” the author has developed a clear understanding of the idea, an individual has the ability to determine their own destiny. This is shown through Vicente’s lifestyle, and how he was a poor old man but still worked hard even though people thought of him as the old man. Next, when Vicente dropped the American man’s amphora, the man didn’t ask him to pay for it but Vicente promised him that he will bring that amphora to him. Lastly, despite Vicente’s age and the time he had been trying to look for the amphora, he never stopped looking and never gave up. An individual can decide how and what they want in their life.
