“Thanks”giving Thanksgiving is the day the pilgrims and native americans prepared food for their big feast etc. im sure you know the rest because today we celebrate that day every November and it is the day we “give thanks”. But the bittersweet reality that some of us aren’t very aware of is that the pilgrims would soon be giving thanks to Andrew Jackson for a big chunk of somebody else’s land. “ You have taken the land which is rightfully ours. Years from now my people will be forced to live in mobile homes on reservations. Your people will wear cardigans, and drink highballs. We will sell our bracelets by the road sides, you will play golf, and enjoy hot hors d'oeuvres. My people will have pain and degradation. Your people will have stick shifts. The settlers befriended the native americans and learned about their culture and customs and over time blended in with the natives. You would think that after all that bonding the settlers and the natives would practically be family but the natives soon found out that that they were far from it. When the settlers found out that the land was full of gold there was nothing that could stop the hoard of people from coming in and stripping it of its treasures. In order for the settlers to come in and mark their territory they had to get rid of its current population, the natives. When Andrew Jackson became president he immediately went from brethren to foe. Andrew was greedy but not to the point where he would throw these indians to nomans land so he sugarcoated his removal and relocation of the natives calling it a “Wise and humane policy”. Throughout this period of time the lives of over 2,000-6,000 out of 16,542 relocated Native Americans died from disease, starvation, and cruel treatment from Andrews “humane
