The scottsboro boys and To Kill a Mockingbird are very similar in many ways. In both stories the black men were accused of rape and because people are racist they believed the white people. In both stories the black men went to court and as did Tom in TKaM. Some similarities in To Kill a Mockingbird and the scottsboro boys is that they are both dealing with black people and that’s where people are automatically racist and they will believe a white woman over a black man. Racism in our society is still bad to this day but it is not as bad as it used to be. There used to be schools just for colored people and the whites would be separated for the black. Now rape is something not a lot of people talk about and it is illegal to do it. Rape should not be something people joke about or accuse others for doing because it is a very serious discussion. Tom Robinson was accused for raping Mayella when really he was not capable of doing some of the stuff they said he did because of his left arm, which he cannot move. And the scottsboro boys were not capable to rape those women because they were not even on the same car of the train. So if they were on a different part of a train then how is it remotely possible for them to rape those two women. And how is it even possible for Tom to do all those things to Mayella because all the things they said did not add up to Tom Robinson's physical appearance because of his arm. They assumed it was a lefty but Tom's left arm is not capable of doing anything because he cannot move it. The last similarity in both TKaM and the scottsboro boys is they both went to court. Tom Robinson ended up going to court because of a lie from Mayella and Bob Ewell. The scottsboro boys ended up going to court all because of two white women who accused them of rape. In both stories the people practically knew that they were innocent but just because they are black they were guilty. In TKaM there was an obvious answer on if Tom Robinson really raped Mayella but the jury decided he was guilty. Why? Simply because it was a black going against the white. It’s the
