Track spikes/pins falling out is an reoccurring event at track or cross country courses, which negatively affects the athletes that participate in them. This can become a nuisance because time is wasted before and after events because events should take place within minutes of each other, money to replace the lost spikes can become very costly over time, and it can ultimately hurt the athlete's performance. Approximately 75-85% of varsity track athletes and 90-100% of varsity cross country athletes* wear spikes, meaning it’s guaranteed that they’ve had to change spikes before or after a race. A track team will go through, on average, 5-6 bags of spikes(each bag containing 100 spikes) in 1-2 seasons. Each meet can have different requirements
