Unbroken is a true story of a young, Olympic athlete from Torrance, California name Louis Zamperini. Louis got made fun of for his Italian heritage and bullied which resulted in Louis beating those kids up. Louis’ brother Pete helped him channel his negative energy into running. Louis was called into service on a bomber crew in the Pacific in World War II. His plane went down in the Pacific Ocean and two others besides him survived in a raft for 40 days with unpredictable weather, but they occasionally caught fishes or even a bird. Since Louis was considered famous for his running the Japanese picked Louis for especially harsh treats by guards. He actually was sent to a variety of different camps till he arrived in Tokyo, which is the final camp. He was tortured so badly by specific guards who gave him the nickname “The Bird”. Louis was asked to broadcast but refused and of course got punished.
This story points out survival, redemption, and resilience. The social issues are when Louis’s plane crashes and he is stranded for 40 days, also when he is captured by Japanese and brutally beaten. This story's main point is a “fighting spirit that remains unbroken can survive anything.” This quote means someone who continuously fights for something they really want and remains consistent will get through anything.
Unbroken is considered watered down. Critics say that no book, movie, or re enactment can show the slow agony of them on the ship for 40 days when many people would lose hope. The movie is accurate, but watching a movie and actually relieving the details are totally different things.
This movie is a true, powerful, and frightening story that is has negative effects but a positive outlook on life. It truly is a great story that gives hope for people who think they have hard problems when you think about what Louis went through with this as far as only eating occasionally and getting brutally attacked because he was something. This movie is a great movie and worth
