Dinky Dollar sportswear would use all different types of information. Quantitative and Qualitative information are the two different type’s information used. Qualitative methods are a way of collecting data in the form of an interview for example. So this data may be less reliable but would be validating because someone would have actually said it and there would be proof. Organisations use this information as with this information there is proof that the information has been at least mentioned but organisations don’t like using it sometimes as some accounts of this information can be incorrect and un-reliable but organisations may use this information to persuade new customers

This is named as operational support. Operational is they way in which that the businesses use information to monitor and control activity within the business. An example of this could be a multinational trader that monitors the sales of certain types of jumpers in different locations. They might find that the style of jumper that sells well in the UK would not sell as well in France due to different fashion senses at the time. When the company monitors this information they can use it to control the business and what items are sold in certain places. This monitoring means that the business can use operational support to maximize profit by minimizing delivery costs of incorrect items. A strategic decision would affect the business on a wider scale and needs to be intelligent, as it will affect the long-term welfare of the business. A strategic decision at Currys might be to discontinue a certain product because of the lack of sales in the stores. When considering this strategy senior management at currys might consider it better to sell this product on their website only so as not to lose customers.

Another purpose of information is to help a company in gaining commercial over a competitor. So for example if a competitor went out of business, (in currys case, comet.) When this happened currys bought all of the stock off comet upon closure. Then another possibility might be to merge both companies together to become bigger than their competitor (Like again PC World joined up with currys) this helps a they join customers and no longer have any competitors.
