Sickness is a bane of all peoples, yet in the modern era, we have the ability to counter it. Should we put that ability to use or leave ourselves vulnerable? Vaccines provide safety and are effective; they are responsible complete eradication of the deadly smallpox virus. (“Smallpox”) Vaccines stop some of the worst diseases in their tracks, averting an estimated 2.5 million child deaths per year; however, in many areas of the world, such vaccines are not readily available (“Giving Developing Countries the Best Shot”). For instance, measles has a meager 85% vaccination rate worldwide(“Immunization coverage”), leading to an estimated 134,200 deaths in 2015(“Measles”). This is not an acceptable margin of error. We cannot allow almost 135,000 people go ignored in their suffering. Yet this is just one disease and only a fraction of the suffering that occurs worldwide due to a lack of vaccination. This will accomplish two goals: maintaining public demand for vaccination and increasing private donations towards vaccination efforts. A public demand for vaccination is required to achieve safety in a community. Education on the importance of vaccines, in the forms of radio, television, and integration into school curriculum will make people willing to accept vaccination and demand it from their governments. Moreover, education will promote private donations in wealthier nations. We must make vaccination an issue that the public thinks about and contributes to. This fund should be contributed to by all nations and possibly private individuals and corporations, if they
