On September 11, 2001, four American Airlines flights were hijacked by members of Al-Qaeda on a suicide mission. Two of the planes crashed into New York City’s World Trade Center, one crashed into the Pentagon and the last one crashed into a Pennsylvania field. In total, the attacks claimed the lives of around 3,000 innocent US citizens. (“9/11 Attacks” 1-4) Following the attacks, President George W. Bush announced that, “Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward, and freedom will be defended.” President Bush is referring to Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden as the “Faceless cowards”.
