Additionally, New York first abolished slavery in 1799, but 20 years later a valedictorian writes a speech about how men from “free” schools still can’t get jobs do to racial discrimination. When the americans pulled down a statue of the king in 1770, that was the beginning of a new government, but only for the specific people of course. Not only did african-americans suffer through racial discrimination, but the Seneca and other Iroquois Indians did too. The Northwest Ordinance (NO) wrote a peace treaty with the native americans in 1787 known as Utmost Good Faith. In the NO document, it states that the Indians would never have property taken away from them, unless the Congress legally gives approval. This does seem like a win-win situation for the Americans and Indians, but the three leaders of the Seneca tribe wrote a letter to George Washington in 1790. In the letter, the European and American explorers threaten the Iroquois Indians and they reluctantly surrendered their country.
