Ernest Greene, also known by his artist name Washed Out, was born on October 3, 1982 in Perry, Georgia. There he attend the University of Georgia and earned an undergraduate degree and a Masters of Library and Information Science degree. He sought out to find a job as a librarian but was unfortunately left out in the cold. He moved back in with his parents and started producing songs in his bedroom studio. Soon, he caught the attention of a handful of influential music bloggers after they found his music on his Myspace page. Needless to say his music quickly gained traction, and in 2009 the record label “Mexican Summer” digitally released Washed Out's debut EP, Life of Leisure. Later that year, the EP was released on vinyl and a limited edition cassette tape. Then in 2011 Greenes carrer took off when his song "Feel It All Around" was picked as the theme music for the TV show Portlandia. After that, he signed on with Sub Pop Records. It’s warmer and more optimistic than his other work. The title of the album refers to the creation of detailed, imaginary worlds. It implies a sense of escape, an ability to forget the mundane and fill one’s thoughts with something new. The best songs on Paracosm vividly etch out the world that Washed Out would like to inhabit. The opening of “All I Know” feels like a sunrise. Not an inherently happy theme but the song takes the form of a release from the subject matter’s tension rather than a fixation on it. “Paracosm” creates an imaginative atmosphere with a harp-like synth that sways within the mix. This psychedelia coupled with the sittin-around-the-campfire feel of the rhythm guitar makes for an all together blissful, and entrancing
