The electoral college was put into place to create order to the voting system by putting down a foundation that made sure the voter wouldn't be able to vote an unqualified candidate into office. The pros for keeping electoral college are; creating a way of balancing small and larger states, prevents a nationwide recall, and provides a buffer between population and selecting a president. For theses reasons it continues to be apart of our governments voting process.
There have been many proposals trying to get a electoral college out. One of the main reason for this is that the popular vote doesn't always match with the electoral college votes. This happened a few times over the years, as into the 2000 election with bush and Al Gore. Al Gore had the majority of the popular votes, yet Bush had the majority college votes. Some other reasons people want it abolish are as the following: it gives the state the power to vote in candidate instead of the people, takes away equal voting rights making those of the electoral college greater that the general public, and makes he popular vote more like a poll then a way of actually electing. …show more content…
As time has gone on since the founding father established the electoral college the American citizens have more education opportunities and ways of getting involved in the election and politics then they did before, making the people more capable of getting someone edible voted into
