In the 1800s America was a growing nation with a promise of freedom and the creation jobs to anyone willing to work. This era was called the Westward Expansion which meant that the nation was expanding its boundaries to the West. This process required them to build a continental railroad which ran from Eastern cities to cities in the far West. Due to the construction of the Railroad many workers were needed and not everyone was up for the vigorous and hard work. The majority of those who took these jobs were immigrants willing to do anything at any pay. Many Chinese immigrants accepted to work at lower rates compared to other Americans.
