Most writing assignments I approach with a sense of duty. I press through the assignment with agony and gritted teeth, and would rather just go to sleep. I look at it as a monumental task and always appreciate the finished product for the work it represents. Writing is something I enjoy. Deep down I love to place ideas on a page expressing feelings and emotions. You may wonder at the contradiction between these stances, but they are both equally true. I believe writing is a gift from God. I believe it is meant to be explored, and I believe it ought to be reflective of our worldview.

When approaching an assignment, I often must remind myself that it truly is a gift from God. Personally, I have an active imagination, and I would love to bring it to a page like a parent bringing their child to a park and watch it as it runs wild. I enjoy letting it loose on the page to have its havoc as I stand by and erase the margins into a semi-coherent story spreading to far lands with wild monsters. However, most writing assignments I am required to write instead demand that I set that imagination in a desk while repeatedly telling it not to stare out the window.
