The theme of the movie The Hunger Games is how much someone would sacrifice for someone they love and care about. Katniss Everdeen sacrificed many different things throughout the story and she did it all because she cared enough those people to do it. The biggest sacrifice made in this film was when Katniss volunteered to take her sister's place in The Hunger Games. When she did this it was almost certain that she would not come out alive but she was willing to do this for her sister. Nobody has ever done this before in the history of The Hunger Games so it wasn't like anyone would expect her to do that for her younger sister. This competitor wasn't a threat to Katniss since she the girl was so young. Rue was unlucky enough to get picked but did not have an older sibling to volunteer for her like Katniss's younger sister did. Katniss sacrificed her safety by making a bed of flowers for Rue after she had been shot by an opposing district. Katniss didn't have to do this, she could have gone and searched for food, looked for shelter or just could have left. Instead of leaving she paid her respects by making a bed of flowers over the young girls body. While doing this she was also risking her own safety by being out in the open. When she did this she didn't sacrifice just for Rue she also sacrificed for Rue’s district to help them grieve the loss of their young
