White(or yellow) phosphorus is one of the two types of phosphorus, the other is red phosphorus. White phosphorus is a tetraphosphorus which means it is made up of four atoms. It has a tetrahedral structure. Due to its arrangement, it has more instability. The molecular structure is made up of six P-P bonds. The two forms of phosphorus are A- form and B- form. The A- form is known as the standard state, in this form it metastables under this condition. It has a body-centered cubic crystal structure, and transforms reversibly into the B- form at 195.2 K. In B- form, it has a hexagonal structure.
White phosphorus is a translucent solid, and it has a waxy feel to it. When exposed to light it turns yellow. For this reason it is also called yellow
