Slavery played a very important role in American history. The first slaves arrived in America in the 1600s, before the country was even established. They worked their whole lives without getting paid. In the 1800s, slaves were being used in mostly the southern states, because the North was against slavery. Although there were negatives to slavery, there were some positives to the United States. Crops were being produced more, slaves worked on other things to help their plantations, and they even boosted other industries in the country. The South has the perfect climate and environment for different crops. The use of slaves sped up the planting and harvesting process. They worked many hours a day, which caused more and more products to be sold.
