Slavery is not an acceptable part of the American past time however, it is not to be forgotten. Slavery has been around ever since ancient greek times and in America it ended in 1865. The treatment of slaves varied greatly, but almost no slaves could legally marry, have a family, testify in court, or own property. Slaves entered American history when they were brought over in 1619 to do the majority of the labor. David Davis, an English professor at Yale University wrote “Effects of slavery included a major role in the economic development of the United States” (Davis).
