An epic poem is a story that typically follows the protagonist of the story as they go and do heroic deeds or accomplish difficult tasks. The Odyssey by Homer, follows the protagonist who goes by the name of Odysseus. Throughout the story, Odysseus has to face many obstacles along the way, whether it is evil sirens that try to harm Odysseus or giant sea monsters who also want to hurt him. In the book The Odyssey, the main character is Odysseus. He is a man who is the king of Ithaca, but he lived in the city of Troy at the time due to the events of the Trojan War. Additionally, Odysseus has encounters with mythical creatures such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, and Scylla and Charybdis. The book shows us this in ways like showing Odysseus commanding his men to cling onto the bellies of the sheep to escape Cyclops. In addition to that, he also escaped Scylla and Charybdis. Odysseus did this by preparing his men to be ready to run into the monsters. He uses his quick thinking and realizes that avoiding both monsters is impossible so he makes the brave decision to head toward Scylla knowing the consequences would be much worse if they were to go through Charybdis. Nevertheless, Odysseus survives and makes it out of the tricky situation with the majority of his men still alive. In all, Odysseus is a brave man and can think quickly and make sacrificing decisions. Odysseus can command his men to the best of his ability, even if it means that some don't make it in the long run. I can somewhat relate to Odysseus in the sense of decision-making and quick thinking, but there isn't much relation to commanding an
