Purpose: Metabolism is the sum total of all biochemical activity that takes place in a living organism; the exchange of energy and matter. In this lab, we are going to investigate a type of catabolism referred to as cellular respiration. We will measure the rate of respiration in a living organism, and determine the effect of temperature on the respiration rate of the mouse.
Procedure: We need a wire cage of the mouse, a plastic chamber with a cap, a foil pouch with ascarite and dryerite, a thermometer, and a manometer with tubing attached. First, we pick a mouse from the cage and weight it on the scale. Then, we record the weight,
