Why Do Children Deserve To Receive An Education

I believe that all children deserve to have the opportunity to receive an education. Throughout my teaching education and during my grade school experience I have taught and learned alongside many different types of students: poor, rich, children with disabilities, homeless, orphaned, and the list continues as I encounter more students. What I have come to understand from these experiences is that no matter where or what a child comes from they have to ability to learn, as long as there is a teacher who is willing to teach them. Not every child is going to enter a classroom with the will and want to learn, especially the children who have a tough life. It is our job as teachers to help show each child what they are capable of. We went to an elementary school and we were randomly given children to read with and help them develop different reading skills. I remember showing up the first day with my lesson plan so excited to find out who my student would be. I was paired with a kindergartener named Kayla; we sat down to read How Do Dinosaurs Say I’m Mad. As I was reading my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. Throughout the book I would ask Kayla questions, only to receive unrelated answers. They usually consisted of the phrase “My Mom plays basketball.” She struggled to understand the book and anything I said.
