Author Jennifer Fontaine states that sports are a significant business that pulls in $435 billion per year, according to an estimate made in 2012. They go on to say that professional athletes make not as much as we expected unless they are the cream of the crop. Professional athletes work hard to practice their skills after years of harsh training for a career that can end prematurely or last a few years. They continue to state that doctors who don't get paid as much but their salary and job stablitly lasts much longer than a professional athlete. Author Roberto Hinojosa states that without civil service workers such as teachers, police officers, and firefighters, society would collapse. They emphasize that these professionals are not paid as much as professional athletes when their job matters more. The author goes on to compare the benefits of teachers and professional athletes. The author points out that teachers educate students and help them become productive adults. Hinojosa states that athletes are similar to entertainers such as actors, comedians, and musicians; they have no benefit to society.
