Imagine you are peacefully driving to work and a reckless driver cuts you off and almost crashes into you, you honk, they get out of the car and shoot you. Imagine you are peacefully walking down the street and someone runs up to you, shoots you, and takes your belongings. Imagine someone breaking into your home with a firearm and shooting your spouse, your kids, your parents. You. I. I. I. It’s hard to imagine, but this is the tragic and sad reality some people, innocent people, have to deal with everyday all around the country. There are evil people in this world who only mean harm, and who look to obtain firearms with bad intentions. Although some argue that stricter gun-control laws would be ineffective because they have failed in the past, tighter gun-control laws would help reduce gun-related crime, save lives and make America a safer country. There is a lot of controversy over the 2nd amendment. Gun rights advocates claim that the right is unlimited, and trying to limit it is violating their rights. The article “Gun control laws simply do not work.” states that “The main reason gun control doesn’t work is because laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws.” A large amount of firearms are obtained illegally, this leads the opposition to believe that if tighter gun control laws were to be imposed, the amount of illegally obtained firearms would not decrease or stop, it would increase. The opposition is also led to believe that the 2nd amendment is violated by the regulation of firearm ownership as the 2nd amendment states that “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”.
