A while back ago, French controlled Louisiana which back then was a French colony and is now one of United States 50 states in the union. Thanks to French controlling this area during 1682-1763, it makes sense that France has lasting influences in Louisiana. More specifically Louisiana still has Napoleonic code in their law system to this day. As said in the article Code Napoleon: A Short Louisiana History Lesson, “many new governments have decided to base their system on the very same Napoleonic Code that Louisiana adopted.” Evidence that Napoleonic code is in Louisiana in fact as it says the Louisiana version has influenced some new governments. Another piece of evidence that shows Louisiana’s uniqueness in their law system is, “Louisiana is different than the rest of the United States because of Napoleon Bonaparte and our French tradition. “ An example of a law that isn’t in the rest of the 49 states is Forced Heirship. This law says that the child of a family is legally assured some of his parent’s estate.
