Women had many roles in the American Revolution, some were unconventional while others were traditional. These ladies which held jobs such as cooks, maids and nurses, and others had more direct impact such as spies and secret soldiers were referred to as the Daughters of Liberty. Nurses followed camps and did a lot of custodial work , feeding and bathing patients, emptying bed pans and cleaning the hospital. Seamstress, cooks and maids were the most common roles during the war for women. A lot of them were camp followers and were accustomed to this type of work coming from poverty.
