Schools ask a question of whether or not they should be open 24/7 or if they should have a 10-week break from school, showing it is a new school year. Some even suggest having year-round school but having longer breaks in between such as winter break, spring break, etc. But how would these proposals benefit one another? The best thing to do is to take a summer break to allow the students and teachers a break and being able to rest. Allowing students and teachers a long break from school is essential to their mental health and academic performance. Summer break allows students and teachers to rest and get ready for the new school year while also being able to learn by doing things outside that they might not learn in school. The standardized test scores for year-round schools vs traditional calendar schools show a bar graph of different counties in California. All 4 of the counties have higher test scores for the traditional calendar schools than for year-round schools, found in source C. This shows that the students do better when they have a long summer break rather than no long break. A long break allows students to refresh their minds and take a little break so they don’t explode. While having no break will enable students to over-stimulate and will essentially not want to do work or learn any more.
