Postcolonial Feminism is a form of feminism that developed as a response that feminism seemed to focus mainly on women in Western Cultures (Europe). Postcolonial Feminism wanted to prove that the effects of Colonialism affected other races other than white people in the postcolonial world. They argued that women living in Non-Western countries are being misrepresented. Postcolonial feminists argue that using the term ”woman” as a universal group, women would be defined by their gender and not by race, sexual preference, and social class. Postcolonial Feminists aim to remind feminists that there is more than the label of “woman” to define and distinguish individuals or even groups of individuals. Postcolonial Feminism calls for a rejection of homogenization and universalizing of women; it calls for an understanding of historical, cultural, and social differences. It also calls on Western women to observe and combat racism even on the most intimate of levels. That is why it is affiliated with Black Feminism. Both Black and Postcolonial feminists argue that Western feminism fails to adequately account for racial differences. This theory does not apply to female prostitution. This theory’s main focus is on racism and understanding how women come from different places around the world. Women have different backgrounds and views on things.
