promoted in the next round of promotions and leaving the shadow of this Lieutenant but our paths would cross again in an unforeseen way.
In a very rare circumstance, our division Commander in an attempt to keep me from the Lieutenants influence and to rehabilitate my confidence made me a permanent acting Sergeant on late watch within this same division. After six months of successful performance it was finally my turn again to be promoted. To my relief, I was indeed promoted; however, the department took the unprecedented move of leaving me in the same division to fill the Sergeants void on my current shift. I was elated to be promoted and once again believed I could avoid negative contacts with the Lieutenant with a promotion and hard work.

To a man everyone noted the changes I had made and the career path corrections underway. Praise was abundant and I began to think I was indeed on the right path. I was refocused and had found the successful career I had left behind years ago. An Administrative Sergeants position came open with our division one year after my promotion. Administration is my greatest strength and with a doubt my best attribute. I desired this position and my Major looked forward to my application. Once again, the Lieutenant interjected as a negative influence. He worked tirelessly behind the scenes to deny my transfer to this administrative position. He championed and strived to have another Sergeant, vastly under qualified, to attain the position. To the Majors credit, he did assign me as the Division’s Administrative Sergeant ignoring the concerns of the Lieutenant. I quickly excelled as an administrator and made positive end roads for myself. I performed well, by all accounts, for five years as the administrative sergeant and enjoyed my work tremendously. I did not take the next promotional exam and would have never taken another exam or left the position. I was completely satisfied with my career and very happy. During these five years, I encountered very few issues with the Lieutenant and had come to believe even he was impressed with my efforts. Again, I was very
