All nurses are taught to give honor to Florence Nightingale as the founder of modern nursing. IF wasn’t for her courageous spirit to go out and start caring for the soldiers, there would no birth of modern nursing. Since then nursing have grown to become one of the largest healthcare workforce in the United States. Nurses are called upon to work in hospitals, public health, clinics, private practice, education, insurance companies and today, even in technology.
The role of nurses has expanded beyond the bedside to working in many different areas of the healthcare field. Each role has its unique requirement that help strengthen patient care. They can be either direct clinical care or administration. They are expect to possess a professional characteristics that will foster a healthy environment and encourages positive patient outcome. One of the first trait of an advance nurse is to recognized change. Nursing has change over the years. The role of nurses has change throughout the years. They are given responsibilities and more complex task to accomplish. Advance nurses indirect clinical care non-direct care is asked to have a specialty and be certified in that area. They are expected to be a team player and have vision and goals for the organization that they are employed by. They need to have strong critical thinking skills that can solve complex problems. Most policy are made upon research evidence base which can impact the quality of treatment for patients. The provider is having to know what Medicaid and Medicare policy are when it comes on to reimbursement and evidence base practice, treatment plan, diagnoses and specialty coverage. Policy are made by research and sometimes because lack of research the policy are vague about treatment and coverage. For example, the policy on smoking can be “increase time in treatment”, this doesn’t say much, so the provider is left with a gap to determine and investigate the length of time for treatment and how to apply the treatment and the qualifiers,
