Loyalty can be between anything, it can be between two friend, a dog and his master, a man or woman to their religion, a knight to his king, or even between a man and his car. We are loyal to the people or things we are loyal to because they are important to us and they are important to us because we believe they are loyal to us as we are to them. Loyalty is a contract, we choose to offer our support and allegiance because the the other party offered us their loyalty and thus earned ours.
