Before the “Jacksonian Age” or, “the age of the common man” as it is often referred to, middle and lower classes had close to no rights regarding voting and democracy compared to aristocrats and rich men. Voting rights were restricted to wealthy, white landowning men even though they made up a tiny percentage of the Americas at the time. By the 19th century and new governance by Jackson, these rights were expanded for more people to have a say in their government, excluding people of color, women, and the indigenous population. Andrew Jackson was a president who was somewhat democratic, by paving a way to help the common man but proved to be the opposite to racial minorities, other people in authority, and women during his presidency.
