Abortion, does fighting for pro-life include the mother’s well-being?

Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe it is immoral and even consider it to be murder. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth.” However, when fighting for the life of a fetus, these pro-life believers do not consider pre-pregnancy complication and repressions mother’s face. In addition, many of these supporters fail to acknowledge post-pregnancy.

Every year, worldwide, about 42 million women with unintended pregnancies choose abortion, and nearly half of these procedures, 20 million, are unsafe (Gynecol). Some 68,000 women die of unsafe abortion annually, making it one of the leading causes of maternal mortality (13%) (Gynecol). Certain life-relying medications have negative effects on the fetus (Marks). Like Lexapro, an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medication, or Depakote, an epilepsy medication used to treat seizures and epileptic episodes (Marks). Not taking an anti-depressant can cause pregnant women to show higher levels of prenatal stress hormone (cortisol) compared to healthy women, an explanation for some associated risks (Muzik). Aspirin is another example of a lethal medication to a fetus. Furthermore, it is commonly used as an anti-inflammatory and blood thinning medication. If a mother were to need aspirin for a heart condition, it would be unavailable to her. Yes, you could change the prescription, but not without difficulty and the possibility of bodily rejection.
