Arguments Against Gun Control

The gun originally designated as purely a weapon of war due to its ability to instantaneously cause death which has only in relatively recently time become a point of debate by people arguing they should be allowed to use a gun for self-defense, as self-defense is a legal right. There is no correlation between gun availability and crime rate, on the other side institutions such as government are often seen as needing to play essential role to apply more severe punishment for gun crimes instead of focusing on gun control.

Self-defense is the legal right for person to use reasonable force for the purpose of defending one's own life or the lives of other. Gun is a legal tool for self-protection or at least affects criminal offense decision.

Accordingly the government makes their decisions reactively to gun crime such as when the US government attempted to enact more gun control after Newton massacre in 2012 whereby a gunman shot dead 20 children and 6 adults at elementary school. Statistics in many countries as taken from Miron (2001) in his article “Violence, Guns, and Drugs: A Cross‐Country Analysis” explores how countries with strict gun control don’t always have less crime but instead other factors cause variation in the crime level experienced by the country . Nation such as Japan have low availability of gun access and a low crime rate; however, there is limited amount of guns in both Russia and Mexico compared to other countries however much higher levels crimes are experienced within those countries. Conversely nations such as US have extremely high levels of gun ownership as well as high crime, while other nations like Switzerland have similar levels of gun ownership rates but experience much less crime.
