Before every surgery the surgical team is required to do a surgical scrub before they can perform a procedure. You make ask how is it done what are the steps? In this paper, I will give you a crash course on how to scrub and don a surgical gown and gloves. First there are a few things I will briefly explain the concept of aseptic technique. Aseptic technique is a set of procedures and processes taken to reduce or eliminate the introduction of pathogens to a controlled environment. There is five levels of classification sterile, clean, clean contaminated and dirty. When we eat we may have food under our nails or hands may become grossly dirty. Grossly means overly not disgusting. A three-minute scrub, three-minute scrubs are done when you have finish one case break down and set up for another case. Sometimes you can be scheduled to scrub 15 cases in a shift. When you scrub you are washing from your finger tips to your elbows, you are doing a controlled scrub counting each brush stroke. At all times, your forearms and hands must be kept at a forty-five-degree angle, above the waist and below your shoulders. If your hands or forearms fall above or below you are considered contaminated. If you become contaminated you must redo the surgical scrub. Once you wash an area you move on to the next; you are not allowed to go back to an area already washed. Once you start the scrubbing if you stop, touch anything other than the bush you must throw away your bush and start over.
