Inform the receiving health care provider that he is reporting a critical result (or results) on a patient. The calling staff will identify the patient (using first name and last name and medical record number).
2- Upon completion of the critical result notification, ask the authorized health care provider to verbally read back ALL of the reported critical result(s) and to identify him/herself including his/her professional title.
3- After the call the original report will be printed, signed by authorized personnel, and appropriate action is taken.
