Even though Jem is fairly disrespectful and rude in the book, he is willing and wants to be like Atticus and wants to be a good contribution. In the lynching article, Mr. Stevenson is investigating the illegal lynchings of black men. He wants to find the truth and is very determined to do so. He believes it is wrong that the 4,000 black men were unrightfully killed and have unmarked graves. Robert Ewell, are negative contributions to society. Mr. Ewell is an alcoholic and a drunk and depends on other people to get what he wants. He is so poor that he lives behind a dump and is paid by the government. He doesn’t take care of his disrespectful and wild kids and has his sixteen year old daughter try to raise them since their mother passed away. He takes the government money and buys more alcohol and gets more drunk other than saving it in an attempt to help his family. His daughter Mayella also is a negative contribution because she depends of black men to do her job and she doesn’t try to help her
