Behavior Intervention Plan Introduction: Tommy is a ten year old boy in 5th grade. He is above grade level in reading. He struggles with writing and is two grade levels below in math. He has a strong sense of humor and is highly verbal. He likes baseball, swimming, and baking. He does not like art activities. Tommy is scared to be around new people, does not like big crowds, and is often irritable. Tommy has childhood-onset bipolar disorder and a severe emotional and behavioral disorder. During the school day, he has two segments in a resource SPED class. Statement of the Targeted Behavior: Tommy verbally outbursts, yells, tells students to shut up, uses profanity, and calls student’s names. This will also give him individual attention from an adult, since he may not receive this one on one attention at home with the new baby. Since he is on new meds, the teacher can work with the parents to give them data of what the day looks like and where behavior is rising to give to the doctor. The doctor can then make suggestions of when to take the meds, in what doses, etc. Antecedent Prevention Strategies: Outline strategies to assist in preventing the behavior of concern from occurring. During class when asked to do an individual academic task, Tommy has verbal outbursts and pushes materials off his desk to get out of doing individual assignments. As part of his plan, Tommy’s Team has decided to use a Check-in system: The teacher will provide Tommy with a clear schedule and format of what to expect for the day. The teacher will check in regularly to set expectations, problem solve, and remind Tommy of the stickers he can earn for the day. It would also need to be mentioned to Tommy that check-in time is not a punishment. Check-in time would need to be during classroom downtime, where he wouldn’t be missing
