I grew up in California and had the chance to visit with grandparents every couple of years. I didn’t think about the concept of being old, just remember seeing my grandparent age. They physically moved around well and the only thing I noticed differently was the time they went to bed and got up in the morning, much earlier than my parents did. As an adult, visiting them less often, I noticed more changes in both my parents and grandparents. My grandparents passed away when I was in my late 20’s and fortunately, was able to see them a few months before they passed away. I did notice my grandfather’s ill health and how tired my grandmother looked because she was worried about him and not sleeping well. After my grandparents passed, I started noticing how aging was affecting my parents especially after my father had a stroke. My father passed away a few years later and it was then that I saw how much older my mother looked. Both of my parents were overweight and this did not …show more content…
Someone is never old, but becomes elderly as their health declines and become less mobile. 24-year-old Ashleigh joked that she would consider calling an awful driver “old” no matter what their age was. Age is determined by the level of consciousness, awareness, and you can give it a label if you need to quantify how many years you’ve been alive. Age is a convenient way of keeping track of time. Old is the point you can no longer do things safely by yourself and need additional help. If you smell like moth balls, you’ve been stewing in your own feces and urine, then I do not want to be around you-NOT because you are old, but because you are stinky! This is the point you need help and need to be taken care of. Old people are older than I am. So, if someone was 80 or 90, needed to be cared for and looked after, I would not call that person old, even though they are older than I am- to me, they are
