The Black Arts Movement is the artistic outgrowth of the black power movement that was prominent in the 60s and early 70s. Time magazine describes the black arts movement as the “single most controversial movement in the history of African-American literature - possibly in American literature as a whole”. Moreover, there would be no multiculturalism without Black Arts. Latinos, Asian Americans, and others all say they began producing vocal art as a result of the 1960s Black Arts movement.
