Quintus Caepio Brutus Quintus Caepio Brutus, son of Marcus Junius Brutus, was a Roman senator who joined a conspiracy led by other senators such as Giaus Cassius Longinus. Brutus was known for the final stab in the assassination of Caesar. Brutus was raised by an uncle after his father was killed by Pompey the Great. Brutus disagreed with Pompey until Caesar took over Italy in 49 B.C, forcing Brutus to come to terms with Pompey. Pompey, however, was defeated in a battle not long after allowing Caesar to capture Brutus. Furthermore, Brutus was freed due to his mother and Caesar’s affair. Brutus ruled over northern Italy until Caesar raised his role to a praetor with Cassius. Brutus was later promoted to the consul along with Cassius. Brutus, along with many others, took down Caesar in fear for Rome, causing a tidal wave of emotions to spread through Rome. Brutus tried to speak to the people and give them his reasoning, but after Antony wound the people up, Brutus had no choice but to flee Rome. After fleeing Rome, Brutus reconciled with Cassius and the other conspirators to form a game plan. Brutus knew war was in the near future, so the group hired missionaries and gained supporters to fight against Antony and the defenders of Rome. After the 2 battles of Philippi against Antony and Caesar’s army, Brutus accepted defeat. Brutus was stricken with grief after hearing Cassius take his own life after defeat in the first battle. Furthermore, Brutus decided to take action for himself and ran onto his own sword after begging multiple people to hold the sword for him. All, but one declined, Brutus’s servant being loyal to his master, held the sword which Brutus took his own life
